Traumatic dental injuries
People of all ages can be affected by dental injuries, but most traumatic dental injuries occur in children and young adults. One in four school children experience dental trauma and one in three adults have experienced trauma to their permanent teeth, with the majority of the injuries occurring before the age of 19.
Such injuries can be the result of sport activities, car accidents, fights or bad falls. Luxation injuries are the most common traumatic dental injuries in the primary dentition, whereas crown fractures are more commonly reported in the permanent dentition.
Proper diagnosis, treatment planning and regular follow-ups, for up to 5 years after trauma, are very important in order to ensure a favourable outcome.
